Welcome to the Split area with Trogir and Ciovo
Split is the second largest
city in Croatia, with just over 200,000 inhabitants, and is the largest
city on the Adriatic coast. Once merely considered by some as just transit
point - with excellent transport connections by bus, sea, air and train,
it's easy to travel to and from the city - it is deservedly becoming
a destination in its own right. There's some fantastic sights in the
city, both Roman and more modern, excellent options for dining, drinking
and nightlife, plenty of beach opportunities and lots of choice for
those wanting day trips.
Split is much loved by
visitors these days! Being a coastal Mediterranean city, the city springs
great traditional culture as well while capturing modern influences
as well. The Old city of Split is one of the oldest in the world, and it is really authentic!
Feel like exploring a bit? Beautiful islands like Hvar, Brac, as well as others, are in close proximity.
Trogir, the centre of
the Trogir Riviera is a town with approximately 13000 inhabitants, situated
in the heart of Dalmatia, 20 km west from the city of Split. Trogir
was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997 and is home to a
number of fascinating historic sights.
Its proximity to Split Airport (3 km) also means that Trogir is very
easy to reach. This is favourable for those who are attracted to cruising
along the Adriatic coast. The climate is favourable with mild winters
and warm summers which are cooled by the pleasant wind - the maestral.
Ciovo is an island situated
in middle Dalmatia, connected with the city Trogir by drawbridge, and
administratively divided between Split, Trogir and Okrug. Total surface
of the island is 28,8 km2 and there are several villages: Okrug Donji
(Lower,) Okrug Gornji (Upper), Arbanija, Slatine, Žedno and Ciovo. The
green island of Ciovo was
planned and built as a resort.
